Sue Grafton

Sue Grafton was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. She graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1961, with a bachelor's degree in English Literature and a minors in Humanities and the Fine Arts. After a failed attempt to start writing novels in her late teens, she spent the following 15 years writing screenplays for television movies. This would give her the experience needed to properly put together a story.

After the decade and a half spent in Hollywood, Grafton then returned to writing fiction. While going through a bitter divorce that lasted her 6 years, Sue thought to herself how to murder her husband. Assuring herself she would not be talented enough to get away with it, she started writing it all down instead. That's how her character Kinsey Millhone and the Alphabet Series was born.

The Alphabet novels started with "A" Is for Alibi, and have continued with one book for each letter. Her latest book has been "T" Is for Trespass. Grafton plans to continue the series until the final letter of the alphabet is reached. The final book is set to be named "Z" is for Zero.

Her ex husband, who helped start it all, is still alive. When Grafton's youngest daughter was married in 1996, he attended the wedding which was held at Grafton's house. Although perfectly civil, she would never forgive him for what he had done to her. Her satisfaction was that he came to her house, which was lavish. The very best revenge doesn't have to contain any mystery at all.
