Sue Grafton was born in Kentucky in 1940. When she was 18 years old she completed her first novel. In the beginning times were not as easy as they are now for Sue. Grafton has been divorced twice and this is what gave her the best jump start to her career she could ask for.
Grafton wrote seven novels in the beginning but only two of them were published. Feeling very down on herself she found that she could write screenplays for television. This was a great way for her to learn the correct writing styles she would need later on. For 15 years she would write for television and movies. Finally after learning all she felt she could, she went back to writing her novels.
Grafton's greatest ideas happened while she was going through a bitter divorce from her husband. For six years she would lie in bed and think of ways to kill or maim her soon to be ex-husband. Deciding that if she actually carried out any of these thoughts she would go to jail for a very long time, Grafton put them all down on paper. Her newest series is the Alphabet series. Each book starts with a letter of the alphabet and Sue has complete books through the letter T. Grafton feels that by the time she is up to the letter Z she will be 109 years old. It gives her something to look forward to, and at this rate she will always have a job.
