There is no doubt that there is nothing quite as good as a good mystery. What better way is there to curl up on a cold evening after a long day? Of course, any good book will serve the purpose, but there is something about a mystery that makes you want to keep going until you’ve read the last page.

There are many types of mystery novels, including detective novels, medical novels, and the simple whodunit novels. Readers who particularly enjoy mysteries have their favorites. Many of the most popular mystery novels were written in what is now referred to as The Golden Age, or the period between 1913 and World War II. Probably some of the most popular mystery novels of that time period were written by Agatha Christie. The Miss Marple novels are still being read throughout the world. Before this era, there were still some great mysteries written. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle produced some of the most popular mystery novels ever written that featured detective Sherlock Holmes. The Murders in the Rue Morgue by Edgar Allen Poe will never stop being a classic mystery novel.

Some of the more modern day mystery novels that have gained much popularity are the Sue Grafton Alphabet books featuring Kinsey Milhone and Jeffrey Deaver's Lincoln Rhyme mysteries like The Bone Collector. One of the most popular mystery writers of our time is James Patterson. His series of books featuring Alex Cross are extremely popular.

When it comes to novels, mysteries will always be very popular. They allow us to try to out think the characters and second guess the author. They give you the opportunity to assemble clues and try to solve the mystery. A good mystery novel will be a page turner and definitely keep you up at night.
