Thomas Perry is a well known American mystery novelist. In 1983, he received an Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America for Best First Novel, which was for The Butcher’s Boy. It remains to be one of the most popular books he has written, even after penning nearly 20 different books.
He was born in Tonawanda, New York in 1947. He graduated from Cornell University in 1969. In 1974, he received his Ph. D. in English Literature from the University of Rochester. Along with his career as a writer and the many odd jobs he held during his youth, Perry also produced and wrote for many television shows. 21 Jump Street and Star Trek: The Next Generation are just two of the shows he is credited with.
He has written many best sellers such as Metzger’s Dog, Big Fish, Island, and Sleeping Dogs, which is the sequel to The Butcher’s Boy. He is also known for the five Jane Whitefield novels: Vanishing Act, Dance for the Dead, Shadow Woman, The Face Changers, and Blood Money. Vanishing Act received an impressive honor. It was chosen as one of the 100 Favorite Mysteries of the 20th Century by the Independent Mystery Book Sellers Association. Perry plans to continue the Jane Whitfield series next year with an entry entitled Runner. He is also the author of Death Benefits, Pursuit, Dead Aim, Night Life, and Fidelity.
