John Grisham is a famous writer of fiction novels. Crime and horror are usually the main theme of all of his books. He has also written screenplays and movies that are horror themed. Ideas for many of his novels come from his background as a lawyer.
While he was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas, he attended college at Mississippi State University. He also went to law school and was licensed to practice in Mississippi. Clients came to him for criminal defense and injury cases in Southhaven, Mississippi. In 1983, he was elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives. While practicing law, he was called on to be a public defender. He learned how the criminal justice system worked while defending indigent clients.
His first attempt at writing fiction was a legal thriller. The title of this first book was A Time To Kill. It was rejected 28 times and when it was finally published, it only sold a mere 5,000 copies. Even though these sales were abysmal, he was not discouraged and began writing his next book. His determination paid off. The next novel he wrote was called The Firm, and it saw much more success. This went on to become a movie and the book sold over six million copies. Some of his other novels include The Rainmaker, The Pelican Brief and The Client. Many more of his novels went on to become great movies. You will enjoy reading the novels and then watching the movies.
