Sue Grafton

Sue Grafton was born April 24, 1940 in Louisville, KY. Her father, C. W. Grafton is also a novelist. Sue began writing when she was 18 years old. By the time she was 22, Ms. Grafton had finished four novels, however, none of them were successful. As a result, she started writing screenplays and did so for fifteen years.

As she went through a nasty divorce and custody battle, she thought of ways to kill her soon to be ex-husband. What she saw was so real, she decided that she should write them down. As a result, she started a new career as an author of murder mysteries.

While reviewing other authors’ works that have used colors and weekdays for the theme, Sue thought of the alphabet and thought of every crime or crime-related word she could associated with the alphabet and there her novels were born. She began with "“A” is for Alibi," and has most recently released, "“T” is for Trespass" and will finish approximately in the year 2015 with "“Z” is for Zero." Grafton is not willing to sell the rights to her books for screenplays and has made her family promise not to release them for screenplay adaptation purposes.

Grafton's books are published in over 20 countries including Estonia, Bulgaria and Indonesia. Ms. Grafton has won several awards for her books. She is a three time Anthony Awards and Shamus Awards winner. In 2008, her most recent award, the Cartier Dagger, which is a lifetime achievement award, presented by the British Crime Writers Association.
