Ann Perry

Ann Perry was born in London, England in 1938, just prior to WWI. At times she was evacuated and claims a haphazard education, due to her incarceration. The 1994 film, Heavenly Creatures, is the story of this New Zealand teen and her friend. Both were convicted in the murder of the friends mother. She first published her Victorian, English style work in 1979. Since 1990, she has written two books each year.

She took the University entrance exams and passed the English, Latin, history and geography subjects easily. She does not limit her writings to series. She has written a number of books that stand alone on religious themes, Christmas and family secrets.

She suffered many illnesses throughout her life. She feels that writing is necessary and not just for the income. She states “There is not enough money to keep me from writing.”

A Christmas Grace, just released, has a four star (leaf) rating. The Chicago Sun-Times compares this tale to those of Agatha Christe. The story is about the challenge of an Ireland unsolved murder as a violent storm ravages the coast.

The Cater Street Hangman, her first mystery, was the first of the Pitt series to be published. The Charlotte and Thomas Pitt series is about a well to do lady and a simple policeman in murder solving and eventually marriage. Their backgrounds allow a completely unbiased investigation of both levels of English society.

The William Monk series is another tale where the main characters often become husband and wife as the tale evolves and a former police officer becomes a private eye. She plans to reveal more about William Monk and his mentor in future tales. Her publisher cautioned to move slowly with the revelation. Suspense keeps the readers wanting more.
