John Grisham - A Prolific Mystery Writer
John Grisham was born in the small town of Jonesboro, Arkansas on February 8, 1955. He was one of five children born to Southern Baptist parents. His father worked in construction and they moved around often. John Grisham loved to read and read all novels by John Steinbeck.
Before becoming a mystery writer he earned a Law Degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1982 and practiced in Southaven. He was elected to the Mississippi House of Representative in 1983. Mystery writer John Grisham launched his new career as a writer starting in 1984. It took John Grisham three years to finish his first manuscript. After many rejections his book "A Time To Kill" was published in 1988. Since that time he has published one or more books per year.
Mystery writer John Grisham temporarily returned to the law practice in 1966, then returned again to writing. In addition to his 21 books, mystery writer John Grisham has also written and produced a baseball movie.
Publisher Weekly stated that John Grisham was the bestselling novelist of the 90’s. He sold two million copies on the first printing. Only one other writer has achieved that many sales. Grisham’s book "The Pelican Brief" sold 11,232,480 copies. It was the bestselling novel of the decade.
John Grisham currently lives with his wife Renee and their two children Ty and Shea. The Grisham’s have two homes and they split their time between the farm close to Oxford and a plantation near Charlottesville.
