Sue Grafton's Alphabet Series

Sue Grafton, master mystery writer. won the first two Anthony awards ever for two books in her Alphabet Murder Mystery Series. The first was “B is for Burglary” and the second was “C is for Corpse. “ Her alphabet series is sometimes also known at her Kinsey Millhone series, as that is the name of the bright and unpretentious main character of the series.

Millhone is a private eye extraordinaire and through her eyes readers see the other characters and the events unfold.
Grafton’s first novel of the series, “A is for Alibi” gets her readers off to a flying start. It’s about an innocent woman who has already served time for killing her unfaithful husband. It’s upon her release that Millhone gets involved to find the real killer. The story creates emotional involvement for the characters and the readers alike.

All of Grafton’s Alphabet Novels are rich in characters and vibrant description of the surroundings and clues. It’s been said that Grafton’s series has so many characters it’s hard to figure out who is the killer. In respect to that, it’s also stated that every character is carefully created to fit the drama that unfolds.

You might tend to think that with 26 mysteries and the same writer that there might be a pattern to Grafton’s writing. It is true that she drops hints for future puzzles in one novel and refers offhandedly to a previous novel’s event. Some of the novels in the series are compelling, some disturbing but all are entertaining. Be assured that this very gifted mystery writer will keep you guessing from “A” to the future “Z.”
